At an early age, I began to develop an eye for corvettes and a desire to own one some day. Fast forward to my early 20's, I jokingly told Lori that I'd gladly take a Vette for a wedding gift. Obviously, that didn't happen. I soon set my goal to have one by the age of 30. With three kids (and another on the way), I passed through 30 Vette'less. No problem, just reset the goal to 40. As I approached 40, my Vette began to arrive in the form of kids cars (4Runner, then an FJ Cruiser, then a CX7, etc.). Once again, reset the goal to 50. This goal came and went as my Vette was now in the form of college tuition. weddings, etc. I had no choice but to bump my goal another 10 years. Surely a 60th birthday celebration would offer a brand new 2022 Corvette (assuming they still made them in 2022). Then, on September 4th, 2014 things changed dramatically. While playing in the 51st annual Petroleum Landman's Invitational Golf Tournament I approached the 168 yard, par 3, 8th hole. At that point, I used my 8 iron to hit the shot of my life. "HOLE IN 1". Prize for that feat, new car. First time in the 51 year history of this tournament. The value of the prize was perfect for a base model 2015 C7. With some upgrades to the LT3, Z51 package and several other options (and of course a check for the difference), I finally reached my goal at the age of 52! License tag on the back of my Torch Red Vette reads "1 on 8". TIM & LORI SHIELDS
